Queues

The live picture of who is waiting — for a vet, for payment, for a groom, or for a call back.

Queues pass work between people. Reception puts a patient on a queue, a vet picks them up, and finishing the visit moves them on to the payment queue. The counts on the home screen come from these queues.

Putting a patient on a queue#

Choosing the patient on the home screen.
Choosing the patient on the home screen.
  1. From Home choose New Consultation. A search box opens on the home screen.
  2. Search by the client's name, cell number or the patient's name, and tap them. If the client has more than one patient, you are asked which.
  3. Their account opens with the queue form on the patient. Enter the weight if you have it. Crate / estimated weight adds boxes for a weight taken in a carrier or an estimate.
  4. Choose why they are here: Consult, Callback, Dispense or Grooming.
  5. Type the reason, for example “vomiting since yesterday”. The vet sees it on the queue card.
  6. Pick a vet, or leave Any Doctor, and press Go.
Note
If the patient is already on that queue, the form says so. Pressing Go adds your weight and reason to the existing entry, and FastVet asks whether you want a second, separate entry as well.
Tip
A weight recorded here saves the vet a step and is added to the patient's weight history.

The consult queue#

The consult queue: who is waiting, why, and for how long.

Each card shows the patient, the owner, the reason, which vet they are waiting for, their place in the queue, and how long they have waited. The longest wait is first.

The buttons on a card depend on why the patient was queued, which the card shows under the owner's number:

Card saysButtons
ConsultConsult opens the consultation. Admit starts a hospital admission instead. Cancel removes them from the queue without recording a visit.
Call BackCall Back opens the record so you can log the call, plus Cancel.
Drug DispenseDispense opens a dispense (medicines charged without a full consultation), plus Cancel.
GroomingGrooming opens the grooming record, plus Cancel.
Who can do this
Everyone who can see the queue can press Cancel and Grooming. Consult, Admit, Call Back and Dispense need the Doctor role.
Note
The waiting time is counted from when the patient was queued, not from their appointment time. A patient queued on an earlier day is highlighted and shows “Waiting since …”.

When a vet finishes a consultation, the charge goes on the client's account and the patient appears here for reception.

  • Tap an entry (or its Pay button) to open the client's account and take payment. Tapping takes the entry off the list, so take the payment then. An unfinished sale opens the sale instead.
  • The line under each entry says what it is for. Consultation Completed is a visit; Discharged from hospital, ready for payment is a hospital stay; Medicine refill dispensed is a repeat collected over the counter, so the invoice is only the medication. See Dispense a repeat.
  • Clear in the footer takes all finished visits off the list at once. It does not change anyone's account.
  • A client who leaves without paying still has the balance on their account. Chase it from the account book.
