Lab results
Order laboratory work, track what is outstanding, and read results against the patient they belong to.
Lab work ordered during a consultation or a hospital day comes back into FastVet and attaches itself to the patient. The inbox is where you see what has arrived and what is still outstanding.
The results inbox#
Home›Lab Results Available
Everything that has come back and not yet been reviewed sits here, with the patient and the test. Anything out of range is flagged and sorts to the top, and the values that are out of range are on the card itself — so a result that needs acting on today is obvious without opening anything. Work still outstanding is grouped below, under awaiting results from IDEXX, so you can see what is still to come as well as what has landed.
Open a result to read it in full: every analyte under its category, with the reference range, how far outside it the value sits, and the laboratory’s own comments.
Mark reviewed clears the result from every doctor’s worklist — so the inbox is a shared queue of what nobody has looked at yet, not a per-user one.
A result that was run without an order being placed in FastVet — straight on an analyser, or ordered on the VetConnect PLUS website — has no patient of ours attached to it, so it waits at the bottom of the inbox under the name the laboratory has for it. Assign to patient puts it on the right animal’s record, after which it behaves like any other result; Dismiss is for the ones that were never a patient at all, such as a quality-control run.
Recording in-house results#
Results run on your own bench are recorded against the visit they belong to — add the lab item to the consultation or hospital day, then enter the values or attach the printout.
- Open the consultation or hospital day.
- Press Add and choose the lab item.
- Enter the result, or attach a photograph or file of the report.
IDEXX integration#
Practices using IDEXX can order reference-lab and in-house work directly from FastVet, and results come back automatically onto the patient record — no re-typing, no matching by hand.
- An administrator enters your IDEXX credentials under Settings → Integrations → IDEXX.
- Tests are mapped to your own price-list items so ordering one also charges it.
- From a consultation, order the test; the request goes to IDEXX.
- Results arrive in the lab results inbox and attach to the patient.
The result lands on the lab line it was ordered from, so it is there in the visit — no filing, no looking it up somewhere else. From there you can open the laboratory’s own report, or jump to the patient’s trends at VetConnect PLUS.
Looking back over lab work#
The lab results report lists work over a period so you can see turnaround times and volumes, and find a result when you know roughly when it was run but not for whom.
